6/24/2017 0 Comments Ways To Conquer FearWho hasn't been afraid? Not me, that's for sure. I'm terrified of doing just about anything, singing in front of people, stating my opinion, and about a million other things which end up ruining my life. I'm totally sick of that, and I'm betting that you are, too. I don't have any "simple" ways to conquer fear. I don't have any shortcuts, maybe because I'm just not creative enough, or maybe because there's no shortcuts to getting what you really want in life. You want to grow, to get over that twist in your gut when you do something? You want to be able to go in front of people without your legs turning to jelly and to make your voice work? I don't have a magic solution. I can't get rid of that fear. You'll have to do that yourself.
1. Acknowledge Your Fear So many people don't want to show fear, thinking that it's weakness. No. Fear is the opposite of weakness. If you're afraid, and you do something anyways, that's one of the strongest things that you can do. I know that you're thinking "look, my fear of public speaking is destroying every single presentation that I've had to do, I acknowledged it about a decade ago". Hm, really? Have you looked at your fear, tried to find it's root, and rationalize it? You've got to really look at it. Don't just say "I'm afraid" and leave it at that. Say "I'm afraid, and I want to conquer this fear because..." 2. Past, Present, Future There are kind of three steps squished together in one for this step. Why are you afraid? Was it something that happened in the past? For me, I'm terrified of talking to people because once I talked to someone and my dad told me to shut up and stop being annoying. Do you have a reason for your fear? For a lot of people, it's judgement. You have to track down the roots, and maybe you can't find them. That's okay. Don't worry if you can't find the root. How are you going to get over your fear? Are you going to practice your speech in the mirror? I got over it by trying to talk with my friends. It's alright if you fail a bunch of times. If you're trying, you've already won half the battle. Why are you trying to get over it? Just for the sake of it? Or do you have this deadline looming over you? This can act as motivation. For example, if you're afraid of heights but you really want to go on the CN Tower, then you've got to analyze that. 3. Keep Yourself Accountable and Give Yourself Rewards Or tell a friend or family member. Reward yourself (eg. "If I can climb this, then I can buy that cute shirt" or "If I can sing in front of a crowd for one whole song then I can eat pizza tonight), because this is something that requires hard work and discipline. You're not going to magically stop being afraid, so treat it as it should be treated, as a learning experience and a chance for you to grow. 4. Let Yourself Be Afraid This is the one that everyone has the most trouble with. They keep trying to force themselves to get better, to become less afraid, and end up with a panic attack or feeling incredibly overwhelmed. You're allowed to be afraid. Being afraid, but still doing it is the best thing that you can do. And the rest, if need be, will come naturally. Did this help? Do you have your own tips? Please tell me if you have more tips for conquering fear, and feel free to tell me if they didn't work, and why you think they didn't work.

6/17/2017 0 Comments 5 Easy Tips to Get Things DoneYou've got around a billion things to do, and you have no idea how to get them done. Do you have goals that you've set, and no idea how to reach them? Sometimes, life can feel pretty overwhelming. Here are a few easy steps to help you get back on the right track.
1. Eat The Frog You've probably heard this phrase before. It means "get done what needs to get done" first thing. For example, cleaning the bathroom isn't exactly everyone's favorite to do (if anyone likes doing it, I'd be completely willing to let make the sacrifice and let them do it for me). So, instead of procrastinating, do it first thing, and so you know that you can't start eating your pie or whatever you want to do until you've cleaned that mess up. 2. Set Daily, Monthly, and Yearly Goals Write down the things that you have to do every day (I like to stick with three, but you can write anything, though preferably keep it under 5). Preferably make them things that will benefit you more in the long run than the present, for example, one hour of German, half an hour of studying Ancient Rome, and then one hour of violin. Then for your weekly goal, you can make it simple (eg. 3 hours of exercise) or something difficult (eg. write a chapter of a novel that you're working on). Your yearly goal should be something huge to strive for (eg. to have become fluent in German). 3. Exercise Before Learning Multiple studies have shown that students that exercised before studying or taking exams have done better overall, so the same should apply to anyone who chooses to learn or remember anything. Along with helping your brain become more alert, it helps to fit in your exercise time in manageable chunks. (I like to do Tabata and study Mandarin during my rest periods, but what you choose to do is completely up to you.) 4. Don't Multitask Trying to learn how to change the tire of your car while cooking food and listening to music isn't going to help you retain any information. All that it will do is waste time. When you're multitasking, it's just your brain switching between the topics really quickly, and it doesn't help you to do anything in the long run. 5. Keep Everything Clean I know what it's like to have a kid around that messes up everything about every twenty seconds, but keeping a cleaner home and workplace will be the best decision for you in the long run. Even something as simple as making up your bed when you wake up will help you to stay organized and help you to stop losing things so much. Not sure what to do with your life?
